Rainbow Snippets

I can almost breathe. Just two more papers to grade and I can put a lid on this semester. I raced around this afternoon and got caught up with everyone’s snippets.

Here’s more from my holiday short story Purrfect Holiday

Reality body-slammed Tony. Could he bear being back in a vet’s office? What would the man think when he saw Tony’s actual résumé? “What can I put? If I say I’m a vet, he’ll think I did something awful and lost my license.”

“Put the years you worked at your dad and uncle’s vet clinic and leave it at that. If it gets you in the door, you can explain your situation without looking shady.”

Tony rubbed Raven’s velvety ears while contemplating the suggestion. It would be nice to have some extra money to help Nonna out. He was still working through the insane levels of disability paperwork, complicated by going back to school.

“I’ll whip it up after coffee.”

“Make it so!” she replied in her best Picard voice, bless her geeky heart.

Blurb – Tony Gatti had his life planned: get his veterinarian license and go to work with his dad and uncle. Soon after achieving his goals, he learned the shadows and blurriness in his vision went beyond needing glasses. Retinitis Pigmentosa is a genetic mutation with no cure. With his sight almost gone, he moves into his grandmother’s St. Augustine, Florida home with his guide dog, Raven, to start life over. Nonna Concetta thinks she knows the perfect job for him. Her vet is looking for someone to destress the cats at a local rescue.

Javier didn’t plan to hire a cute former veterinarian to fill the role of cat cuddler, but Tony couldn’t be more perfect. Worried his attraction is inappropriate and knowing the holiday season always depresses him, Javier wonders if he should ask Tony out, or if he’d just be spreading the gloom to someone who already has enough of his own. But if he takes the plunge, could it turn out to be the best holiday ever?
