I’m not as smart as I could be some days. I’m back in my apartment for the weekend (doctor’s appointment on monday) and I’m going to go to Lilyfest which is a cool outdoor festival in the Hocking Hills (where These Haunted Hills is set). It entails me driving up a goat path where one slip will either turn my car over in a ditch on one side and over a cliff off the other (who decided these experimental gardens was THE place for a festival must have been a sadist). It’s music, arts and crafts and of course, lilies for sale. So why am I not so smart? It’ll be in the mid-90s today. OMG why do I do these things to myself.

Speaking of THH, here’s more. The guys have settled down to some wine and some going over the recorded evidence from the haunted hotel.

The small cabin descended into silence as they started their analysis of the evidence. Josh knew they’d have something on the recordings unless they really messed it up. Cass would be so jealous that she missed it. He watched the video as he drank his Riesling. Josh nearly dropped the glass when a couple of frames of video slid by. He hit stop and moved back to the start of it before clamping a hand on Brendan’s arm. He pulled off his headphones and Brendan mirrored him.

“You have to see this.”

Camp nano kicked off well but I’m already flagging (It’s hard to write when you’re visiting the parents).

Here’s more of These Haunted Hills. We left off when Brendan in the bathroom looking for ticks. We’re in Josh’s head and I skipped over some of the angst and self doubt he was feeling during his wait on Brendan. It’s a few sentences longer than 6.

Josh shut the door and quickly stripped down, acutely aware that he was no more comfortable being the naked one with Brendan just on the other side of door. At least the awkwardness killed any unwanted action certain parts of him might have gotten up to otherwise. He ran his fingers through his hair feeling for ticks. Finding none there nor reflected in the mirror, he checked the inside of his clothing before redressing.

“Are you okay you seem a little …flat? You’ve been pretty much a bottle of champagne since I’ve met you.”

Josh chuckled, wagging his head. “Just feeling bad about the tick thing, maybe the ghost too.”

“I didn’t mean to make you feel that way.”

“It’s not you. It’s all in my head. Residual crap from high school. I’m fine.”

I’m back from the nearly two weeks in the Canadian maritimes. It was a great trip. I won’t be surprised if some of it ends up in a story somewhere.

I’m not ready for it to be in the 90s before August. It’s miserable out there.

I’m returning to These Haunted Hills When we last saw Josh and Brendan they’ve just come out of the woods after looking for a fox and they’re going to have to do a tick check.

Joshua fetched the equipment trying not to think about the fact that just inside the cabin was a completely naked Brendan Halloran. It was insane. How the hell had he gotten into this? As he set the laptop and the camera on the rustic little table, Joshua contemplated the stupid urge to poke around. Nothing could spoil this faster than getting caught rummaging in Brendan’s stuff. He wouldn’t ruin this chance for anything.

This will probably be my last snippet for a couple of weeks. I’ll be on vacation in the Canadian maritimes with iffy internet and no time anyhow. It should be a great time.

I’ll be continuing with These Haunted Hills. I’ve skimmed over the fox hunting bit and now they’re back at Brendan’s cabin.

“There is something I probably should have mentioned before we trekked into the woods,” Joshua said as Brendan dug in a pocket for a key.

Brendan side eyed him. “Is it as bad as the possibility of possession by a ghost?”

“Worse. Ticks.”

Brendan shuddered. “Oh gross. Yeah, we should have thought of that.”

“We should use the bathroom mirror to check our backs for them. Tell me it’s not tiny.”

“It’s small but you can see most of your back.”

“Good because I thought it would be awkward if we had to check each other. Not that I’d overly mind but I should probably know you more than a day before I start getting naked and say check my ass for ticks.” Josh felt the fire of a blush swamp him.

Brendan choked. “That would be awkward yes.”

I’m busy trying to clean my apartment before heading to the parents for weeks (summer break). It is not going well.

Have a little more of These Haunted Hills Joshua and Brendan have arrived back at Brendan’s cabin and Josh remembered the foxes Brendan heard the night before. They’re out looking for signs of them (Josh is a fox researcher)

Joshua trekked off into the woods with Brendan trailing behind. They followed one of the paths for a while before Josh came to a stop. “We’re going to go off the path now. That way looks promising. Just watch your footing. Cell phones don’t work out here so good and I’d hate to have to carry you back.” Okay, he’d love to have his arms wrapped around Brendan but not in that way.
