Sunday Small Talk

Very small this time as I have tendonitis in my left hand (my good hand) so badly I can barely use it. I need to get it under control asap.

I didn’t do much writing because I had a lot of RL stuff to do in the evening hours which is my writing time. That said I also went festivaling and spent tons of money and had fun and got writing ideas especially after last night’s jaunt into a haunted railroad tunnel in a ghost town in the middle of a forest.

I got back the second edits on More than His Scars that I need to get my butt moving on.

I’ve also signed the paperwork to get my rights back on Ghosts of Jupiter as the Cross bones anthology is going OOP as I mentioned last week.

Speaking of reversions, I think I’ll be taking back Cassadaga right now as that publishing house’s driving force is having health issues and everything is on hiatus (understandable). I will leave Modified and Sacred there for now as I have no other anthology for it any how. That seems fair to me.

I picked a little more from the short story Modified and Sacred for this week. Addison is now taking Deveral to the negotiation he is to preside over and taking his first good look at Deveral and contemplating his alien nature.

Fryians like Deveral have chromatophores in their skin as camoflogue. (part of what I couldn’t fit into a short story was that Fryians, early in their evolution, faced a dangerous apex predator and much of their physiology has evolved to evade that predator). It works something like this video (and at some point Addison will see it being very fun, he has to learn to read Deveral’s skin coloring).

Addison left Deveral watching the view screen in silence as Fryia fell away. It had been in the dossier that the Sacred Kin had not been off-planet except for a few times to the moon. His odd, goat-like eyes with their spooky horizontal bar pupils grew bigger and bigger the smaller Fryia became. Deveral’s opalescent skin started turning gunmetal gray, blending him into the shuttle seat. The only thing that didn’t seem to change was his hair. It remained the same fiery opal his skin had been.

Sunday Small Talk

A very short one this week since I have accomplished next to nothing. I’ve been out playing around and plotting my nano (which will under my other pen name). I was at a Halloween party until after midnight last night and at the renn fest all day.

In fact I heard something there that I have to use in a story. An artist was telling someone about a friend who thought her house was haunted and one of the things that happened was when they moved in there was a fire pit out back. In it, they found dozens of half burned photos and negatives including one of a little girl with half her face burned away (which he then hid in her bathroom as a prank).

I did get the first scene of mySpook_me story started so that’s something.

And the rights of my short story Ghost of Jupiter have reverted back to me as the pirate anthology Cross Bones is going out of print. I always did want to do more with that universe some day.

I picked a little more from the short story Modified and Sacred for this week (and probably next). Still waiting to hear if it’s been accepted for the anthology.

In this snippet Deveral (coming out of the dark cave) meets Addison for the first time. (I think it’s one sentence over).

His escort stood less than average height but muscular, his short black hair almost razor sharp. Deveral’s vision wasn’t cleared enough to pick out any more details other than the man had a bland expression on his handsome face.

“Kinsman Deveral, this is Lieutenant Addison Hunt. I know he’s early but he seemed interested in the First Temple. I hope it’s all right I brought him here,” Weyba called.

Deveral smiled. He loved people with curious minds though he wished he had on more clothing than the sodden waist wrap. Enough water had wicked up the linen to make it cling to his thighs and ass.

Sunday Small Talk

It’ll be a very short post this week because I’ve not accomplished much this week at all.

Nothing of the SCi-Fi short story or Cassadaga fronts. It’s a bit early for the latter anyhow.

I do have the edits for More Than His Scars which were easy to accomplish other that the flagrant forgetting of this little thing called a comma. The editor must hate me. I KNOW there is something else I wanted to add to this story just a wee bit here and there but can’t remember it. I’m going to really reread it tomorrow and see if I can remember (I think it has to do with magic which is NOT a big part of this story at all as I wanted it to be about Aaron and his all too human suffering.)

I did some research for the anime con based story by going to Tsubasacon, yeah that’s it, research. It was fun but yeah it’s not quite what I needed for this story which is partially set at the Hard Rock in Vegas where I’ve never been. Now that might call for a research trip.

I did find out more about how to play with stuff on my website so once I can breathe again and surface from the 1001 obligations I will start working on that.

Just got back from Tsubasacon where I was cosplaying Shion Karanmori from Psycho-Pass. Okay let’s just be honest until Nov, just assume I’ll be racing in late for this challenge and I’ll have been somewhere in costume because that’s where I’ve been for the last three weeks and for the next three to come. Love this time of year.

I picked a little more from the short story Modified and Sacred, the SF story I started showcasing last week with Addison Hunt on his space ship getting ready to meet what he called a Living God. Deveral would argue that point but he IS considered sacred, so meet Deveral.

Deveral nearly stumbled over a stone hidden under the black glassy water. An oil lamp threw pale, flickering light barely ahead of him in the cave. Even though he could see well in the dark, the shadows here hung thick. Cold water lapped around his thighs, dampening the flaxen waist wrap he wore and made his feet tingle. Sacred Kin almost never left the planet, and he’d never been further than to the moon and back. Now that he had to leave, if only for a short trip, Deveral felt it only right to make a sacrifice to the Goddess and her Consort.
