Rainbow Snippet

I’m exhausted. First I had to have the landlord out here because the seal on the toilet broke. They were coming back later in the week. The next day a pipe broke under the apartments and it took 48 hours to cap off. And now the creek is under the apartment because it’s been raining so much. It’s not helping the creativity.

But I’m still continuing on the SF wip. Kaleo is meeting Aneirin’s brother Rhisart.

Kaleo huffed, a little too satisfied by Rhisart’s answer for Aneirin’s comfort. “If you’re asking what I’d like from your brother, I’d like for him to find me something I could do and let me stay in his home. I’d be lying if I said I’d ever lived anywhere better. I’m not dumb. I know a good thing when I see it. Even if I had to be a Toy to stay, I know I could have had worse but like I said, I don’t know him well yet. I might regret saying that.” He shot another look Aneirin’s way as if judging him secretly violent.

“I don’t know exactly what he gets up to in the bed room, but I’m fairly sure my brother isn’t a sadist.” Rhisart pulled a long face then reached for his drink. Aneirin wished the drinks were stronger.

“Guess I’ll eventually see.” Kaleo shrugged. Aneirin didn’t know what he could say to convince the young man he wasn’t going to be forced into sex. “I don’t know what he’s going to do with me, but he can’t just let me sit around watching his holos all day and eating his food. It’s not like I’m a dog or something that’s gonna die in a few years. I don’t know what happens to Toys when their masters get bored.” He hunched his shoulders, his face pinching. “I don’t want to know.”

Just continuing with the SF story, Kaleo is meeting Aneirin’s brother for the first time

Rhisart grinned at the impertinence, shaking his head. “Just what do you expect from my brother?”

Kaleo sat back, and Aneirin was equally shocked by the question. Kaleo ran his fingers through his short hair, an unconscious action which made Aneirin’s pulse leap. Damn it all to hell. He should kick Pherick in the star clusters for giving him such a temptation.

“I don’t know. I hope he keeps his words and doesn’t send me back for reconditioning. I expect he will decide to use me as a Toy, even if he says he won’t.” Kaleo twisted in the chair so he could study Aneirin. “Maybe he won’t. I don’t know him well yet, but I do know people aren’t as good as they pretend. That can’t just be in the slums, can it?”

Rhisart frowned. “I wish I could say yes.”

I don’t have the spoons to do more than post this up so I’m back to Kaleo and Aneirin’s story. Aneirin is introducing Kaleo to his brother.

Kaleo kept his eyes on Rhisart as he edge into the room.  Aneirin pointed to the chair next to his. “Have a seat,” he said, fearing the young man would stand there, frozen. Aneirin knew Kaleo still expected he would be used by Aneirin and whoever he invited to the party. He could hardly blame the young man for his lack of trust.

“Kaleo, this is my older brother, Rhisart.” Aneirin waved a hand at his brother.

“Hello sir.” Kaleo put his back against the wall, not moving until Aneirin patted the chair he wanted Kaleo to sit in. Aneirin resisted the urge to reach out to calm him. Kaleo didn’t know him any better than he did Rhisart, and it would probably lack the comfort Aneirin intended.
