Rainbow Snippets

I picked a little more from the short story Modified and Sacred for this week (and probably next). Still waiting to hear if it’s been accepted for the anthology.

In this snippet Deveral (coming out of the dark cave) meets Addison for the first time. (I think it’s one sentence over).

His escort stood less than average height but muscular, his short black hair almost razor sharp. Deveral’s vision wasn’t cleared enough to pick out any more details other than the man had a bland expression on his handsome face.

“Kinsman Deveral, this is Lieutenant Addison Hunt. I know he’s early but he seemed interested in the First Temple. I hope it’s all right I brought him here,” Weyba called.

Deveral smiled. He loved people with curious minds though he wished he had on more clothing than the sodden waist wrap. Enough water had wicked up the linen to make it cling to his thighs and ass.

Sunday Small Talk

It’ll be a very short post this week because I’ve not accomplished much this week at all.

Nothing of the SCi-Fi short story or Cassadaga fronts. It’s a bit early for the latter anyhow.

I do have the edits for More Than His Scars which were easy to accomplish other that the flagrant forgetting of this little thing called a comma. The editor must hate me. I KNOW there is something else I wanted to add to this story just a wee bit here and there but can’t remember it. I’m going to really reread it tomorrow and see if I can remember (I think it has to do with magic which is NOT a big part of this story at all as I wanted it to be about Aaron and his all too human suffering.)

I did some research for the anime con based story by going to Tsubasacon, yeah that’s it, research. It was fun but yeah it’s not quite what I needed for this story which is partially set at the Hard Rock in Vegas where I’ve never been. Now that might call for a research trip.

I did find out more about how to play with stuff on my website so once I can breathe again and surface from the 1001 obligations I will start working on that.

Just got back from Tsubasacon where I was cosplaying Shion Karanmori from Psycho-Pass. Okay let’s just be honest until Nov, just assume I’ll be racing in late for this challenge and I’ll have been somewhere in costume because that’s where I’ve been for the last three weeks and for the next three to come. Love this time of year.

I picked a little more from the short story Modified and Sacred, the SF story I started showcasing last week with Addison Hunt on his space ship getting ready to meet what he called a Living God. Deveral would argue that point but he IS considered sacred, so meet Deveral.

Deveral nearly stumbled over a stone hidden under the black glassy water. An oil lamp threw pale, flickering light barely ahead of him in the cave. Even though he could see well in the dark, the shadows here hung thick. Cold water lapped around his thighs, dampening the flaxen waist wrap he wore and made his feet tingle. Sacred Kin almost never left the planet, and he’d never been further than to the moon and back. Now that he had to leave, if only for a short trip, Deveral felt it only right to make a sacrifice to the Goddess and her Consort.

Sunday Small Talk

I’m still barely having time to write because it’s a super busy, but very fun, time of year for me. I was at the Steampunk Spectacle and the Rusted Rodeo Ball all weekend and had a blast. I even got to dance which I get to do so rarely any more and I love to dance (I do it badly mind you, but usually it’s just me hippo in a tutuing it around my living room stepping on the cat).

I did manage to write a little bit 5 out of the last 7 days but still not managing much more than 1000K. Sigh.

I did pick up a spook-me assignment that I hope to write for my Athens demon hunters.

I suppose the biggest news is that I DID send Cassadaga Nights off to a publisher for consideration.

That and I DO have a new release this week in Queer Sci-Fi’s new flash fic anthology which you can read more about here.

Other than that I’ve put in three chapters worth of edits on Blood Red Roulette, the same ones I spoke of last week. I had done them on paper then as I find it much easier to edit on paper than on a screen. It’s not nearly as much as I had wanted to finish but at least it’s something. I’m never going to get this done by the end of the year as I had hoped. That makes me sad. Okay I suppose I could but it seems unlikely, how’s that?

I also went in on the commissioned trading cards for Once Upon the Time in the Weird West (which was funnily enough the same theme our airship had this year for our ball). I chose Tsela for a variety of reasons (most of the personal, some vaguely paranoid.). I can’t wait to see them but it’ll be about another 6 weeks before the cover reveal on this one and I’m not sure about the cards (I’m assuming close to that time).

I’m trying something new this time. I just finished the SF short story (that desperately wants to be a novella).

Addison Hunt is on board ship getting his new orders from his captain (She and her twin rescued him when he was a teen).

“Are you ready for a mission more boring than your usual?”

Addison schooled emotion off his face. His shoulder thrummed with pain as if to remind him that his last mission had been too exciting. “An uncomplicated escort mission would be a nice change of pace. Besides.” He grinned impertinently at his captain. “How often will I get to talk to a living god?”
