Rainbow Snippets

Running late. I was at the Ohioana Book Festival which was a lot of fun (as was the casino I hit afterward).

More of These Haunted Hills which is my camp nano. I haven’t written much this week between an idea for a Christmas short story and having to write and write three MORE exams. When last scene Josh and Brendan have escaped the haunted hotel but….

Brendan steadied his nerves and followed Joshua back inside. “I would like to hear the recordings.”

“We can stop off at my place or yours.” Joshua frowned as he beelined for the room they had been in. “I wanted to see if there might be places to set up the cameras for the foxes but if you’re not okay with me being there, that’s fine. We can go to my place or even my office on campus if you want somewhere more public.”

“I’m following you into a building that just tried to trap and kill me. I’m fairly sure I can trust you in my cabin.” Looking into those blue eyes, Brendan wondered if he could trust himself. What was he thinking? Of course, he could. He wasn’t ready for anything like that. Still, Joshua represented one hell of a temptation. Maybe it was the innocence he seemed to wear tighter than his geeky T-shirt. It had been so long since he’d entertained even this vanilla level of attraction that it overwhelmed him.

Sunday Small Talk

I had something I wanted to say for this It’s been a while after all. It was thoughtful and maybe even funny and I didn’t have time to write it down when it was in my head. And it’s gone because that’s what depression does to you.

But there are good things going on, hell great things even. I won one of the highest honors at my university, I was voted Outstanding Professor of the year by the students and that about made me cry (I’m sure I will when I have to give that little speech).

And over at Joyfully Jay it’s Paranormal week! paranormal week I’m among the 100 author giving away a paranormal read. I’m giving away my 1930s demon hunter’s novel Soldiers of the Sun So check it all out!!

I finished the edits for Blood Red Roulette. It took me longer than it should have (and thank you DSPP for being so patient with me). Hopefully I’m done with the huge edits and the next will be smoother sailing. Also I’ve seen the rough draft of the cover for this. It’s AMAZING. I can’t wait until I can share the final product. You’re going to love it.

I’ve also finished the edits for something I’ll be writing under my YA pen name. That’s really exciting.

And I’m waiting on the beta reader for my SF novella (she had a few RL issues). Can’t wait to get that off to Nine Star (crosses fingers).

I’m finally done with the novel edits but the short story edits were on my brand new storage device and it broke. At least that won’t take me long to replicate. Maybe I won’t be reading all the snippets in a rush this week.

Still more of These Haunted Hills which is my camp nano. I haven’t written much this week between those edits and having to write and grade three exams. When last scene Josh and Brendan have escaped the haunted hotel but….

Brendan realized that Joshua meant to go back inside (the hotel). “Should we go back in there when that thing is acting full-on poltergeist?”

Joshua paused, twisting around to face Brendan. “It’s the best time to gather evidence but if this is too much for your first time, we can go.”

Brendan regarded the hotel. He wanted to go but how would that advance his research. He was here to document the ghost hunting life. He wanted authenticity to his characters’ fear in their haunted house. He wouldn’t get it if he ran off. “We can go in but maybe it would be in our best interest not to end up in a place with only one exit.”

Jaydon can’t afford to lose a bet he’s made, so when the sweet as sin Eluin offers him The Contract, it may be exactly what he needs. Or is it? Things get a little twisted with the cheeky demon being around.

The number of demons in Jaydon’s apartment grows, with Eluin’s big brother Eluel and his wayward lover Sam showing up. The couple is at a breaking point in their own on/off relationship and this time getting back together seems as probable as hell freezing over.

Excerpt

I found myself face-to-face with a rather delicate blond boy with round glasses and a white starched shirt, who greeted me politely.

“Good day to you, sir. I have a great offer for you if only you could spare few minutes of your precious time.”

He smiled, even winked at me, or so it seemed, but since I had valid reasons for not being in the mood, I just replied with the required level of politeness.

“Thank you, but I am not interested.”

“You haven’t even heard what I have to offer.” He hugged his suitcase and showed me his pearly white teeth in a charming smile. “You won’t regret it.”

The last thing I needed were salesmen, and I was close to slamming the door under the nose of the bespectacled creature, but he gave me such a wounded look that I decided to let him in. At the end of the day, it wasn’t his fault I’d chosen someone born with a silver spoon up his ass for a boyfriend. I only hoped he wasn’t going to prate too much, as there was no way my head could handle it. I cursed the key, which had given me a hard time recently, making evil plans to get stuck sooner or later, and when I finally succeeded in locking the door, I was ready for some information.

“And what do you off—”

The boy wasn’t in the hallway, and I knit my brows at the thought that he’d let himself into my apartment. Anyway, the whole world was against me, so I reconciled myself with my destiny and headed for the living room.

The light in the hallway was a bit weak as I never got round to buying a brighter bulb, but the view that met me in the room made my eyes pop. The little cheeky brat lay sprawled on the sofa like a prince, and a sexy one at that. He’d taken off his starched nerd shirt, and he was presently adorned in a short top neatly defining his obvious charms. In total, he looked like a different person. A delicious one, stirring some thoughts in my head that shouldn’t have been there, given the present situation. So you don’t get the wrong impression, although his short, delicate frame compelled me to call the guy “little,” his overall looks and demeanor were of a person still too young to legally drink alcohol but old enough to rent an apartment of his own. Currently, he seemed to feel totally at home in mine.

Happy various spring holidays. I’m cooking like a mad woman for…myself. Not going anywhere for the holiday (my university doesn’t give off the monday after the holiday because we’re a ‘commuter’ college for the most part and assumes that no one has family anywhere but here in the hills.)

Continuing with These Haunted Hills (and amused by how many of you align with Indiana Jones about the snakes). Josh and Brendan are free of the hotel now.

“Wasn’t that amazing?” Joshua brandished the camera “I can’t wait to see what shows up on this.”

“Your insanity,” Brendan muttered but if Joshua heard and was hurt he gave no sign.

“I bet we get something cool on the digital recorder.” Joshua continued around through the weeds toward the front of the hotel.
