On spring break, well last day before having to drive home. So my be awesome day is me doing laundry. Hmmm less than awesome but then again I have Journey to Babel to watch, one of my favorite old Treks.

Have a little more of These Haunted Hills , where in when last we saw them, Brendan was afraid he’d be afraid if a ghost really did show up. It’s a bit more than six sentence this time.

“Give us a sign you’re here,” Josh entreated. “If you can hear us, give a little knock on the wall.”

Brendan caught his breath, waiting. He started breathing again when nothing happened. He nearly bowled Josh over when a faint knocking sounded.

“Oh my god, was that real? Did you do that?” Brendan glared at Joshua’s feet as if he could see them moving now after the fact.

Josh glanced over at him, a huge grin on his face. “Not me and I heard it too. Do that again. We hear you. You can talk to us, tell us what you need to! We’re listening.”

The door slammed shut and Brendan felt weak-kneed. “Josh, we couldn’t even open that thing. It couldn’t have blown shut.”

I’ll still be late in reading as I’m still up to my eyeballs (now tearing) with these edits and then it’s spring break.

Sad to say World Book Day has bad memories for me. They tried to copy the UK model here (as far as I know it latest 3 or 4 years then failed). I took part twice. The first year I had a copy of something by Stephen King to give out (the idea being to help promote literacy) NO ONE would let me give them away. I was turned down by every library and school in the tri-county area. Finally the job service people let me join their festivities that happened to be that weekend. I gave away none. People wouldn’t take a book. The next year I teamed up with the remedial reading classes on my campus (I’m in Appalachia and @ 45% of my university are functionally illiterate) They had to take them but when the instructor went to quiz them on the book (the first in the Percy Jackson series) none of them had read it. I gave up after that. Sigh.

Now on to the snippet! I’m continuing with These Haunted Hills Brendan and Josh are now inside the hotel and have gone inside a room where Brendan was getting EMF readings.

“Can you ever hear them in real time?” he asked, knowing that sometimes – at least on TV – the ghosts could be heard only on recording.

“Yes, sometimes. That’ll freak you out the first time.” Josh cocked his head to the side. “Or every time.”

“I’m not sure how I’ll handle it,” Brendan kept his ‘probably not well’ to himself. He was beginning to rethink this whole ghost hunting thing. He was bored now but if something did happen his whole manhood would probably take an embarrassing hit.

I’ll be honest I’ll be late on getting to reading everyone’s as I’m up to my eyeballs in the first edits for the vampires in Vegas novel which are, not unexpectedly, substantial. Also it’s raining so bad here, it’s flooding everywhere and my place is surrounded by a creek so…

Anyhow, I’m continuing with These Haunted Hills Brendan and Josh are now inside the hotel. Josh has turned Brendan loose with an EMF reader and he’s busy poking it into the old bedrooms. The EMF reader has gone off and Brendan realizes he no longer knows where Josh is and has been calling for him. (slightly more than 6 sentences but they were very short ones.)

Joshua popped around the corner. “Find something?”

“Think so. Look! If I put my hand through the door, the EMF really goes off.” Adrenaline shocked Brendan’s system more alive than he’d been in a year or more. “Promising?”

“Very! Okay, I’ll record. You can put away the EMF and try to get some digital photos.”

Brendan demonstrated one more time that the lights only lit up inside the guest room – because it was just that cool – and then pocketed the device. “The door is a bit stuck.”

“Let’s see if we can get it far enough open so we can slip in there.”

It has been an insane week where I failed to do half the things I needed to because suddenly my promotion portfolio was due this week and I didn’t realize that. I mean, I knew it was coming and it was half ready but not entirely. Another faculty in my building was also caught off guard and turned his in to the wrong person because they make it just that clear what we need to do. Huh, like they don’t want to promote us and pay us more.

Anyhow, I’m continuing with These Haunted Hills Brendan and Josh are now inside the hotel. Josh has turned Brendan loose with an EMF reader and he’s busy poking it into the old bedrooms.

He held the EMF reader in the opening. Brendan nearly dropped it as it light up red lights racing across its face. He pulled it back into the hall and the lights died. Heart jackhammering to thrust it back to the opening, rewarded by red. He sucked in a deep breath, fighting for calm. Brendan didn’t sense anything. He inched his hand in further but it didn’t feel appreciably colder here.

“Josh!” he called, his voice sharper than they’d like when he realized Josh was no longer behind him.

I’m still trying to pull my place back together after the upheaval with the plumbing remodel and I’m behind on literally everything.

And since I need to dive back into that, I’ll just post up my six (okay seven) sentences and run. Hopefully it won’t take me all week to comment like last week.

Continuing with These Haunted Hills Brendan and Josh are now inside the hotel which is dusty, moldy and otherwise boring Brendan out of his mind.

“I’m getting a hint of how edited the ghost TV shows are to make it seem more exciting.”

“I guess it can be tedious.”

The hurt tone made Brendan turn to face Joshua. He looked suddenly younger and like his dog had been kicked. “I’m not bored,” Brendan said hurriedly. “I suppose I expected a little more…action? I don’t know or maybe you yelling like a bully at the ghosts. I’ve never understood that.”

“Seems like bad idea to me.” Joshua perked up. “But honestly it is usually a lot of tedium interspersed with moments of craziness.”
