Trying to work up any sense of happiness for the 4th but all I have is dread.

So let me jump into this. Brendan and Josh are setting up go-pro video cameras on the second story of the murder hotel with the help of Josh’s ghost hunting team.

Josh, experienced in securing cameras in odd places, managed to lash that one in place against the window sill before climbing back down. He cast a longing glance back up the ladder as if hoping something more would happen now. Brendan wasn’t sure he held that same hope. He already had enough experience for his book. Anything else he did now was merely to please Josh and to push himself to do new things, things that scared him.

“Now we try the building,” Josh said.

Do we wait for the twins?” Brendan asked.

“I’ll go round them up,” After handing the second camera off to Josh, Hunter jogged after the path the sisters had made. “You three get started.”

Trying to piece together the pieces of my heart after yesterday. I missed last week because it was my birthday.

I have something a little different for you this time. It’s from my story in the newly released Save the World hopepunk anthology. It features a poly family Yoshi and Raine and their husband, Michael and their children.

She found Raine in the kitchen working on dinner. She slipped her arms around her wife, kissing the warm brown skin of her shoulder. “Zucchinis again?”

Raine shook back her long curls and smiled at her. “You know it’s impossible to kill a zucchini. Slice it and it grows three more.”

Yoshi snorted, leaning against the rosy quartz countertop. “Need help with the canning?”

“I plan to send the evil spawn into the fields picking tomorrow.”

“Are you planning to use the hounds to herd them out there?” “More like drag.”

Late yet again but this time it was because I had no power. I’ve gotten a few more chapters of These Haunted Hills edited making me happy but I really need to do more. It’s poor time management on my part.

Picking up from last week, they’re about to wire up the ruined murder hotel for sound and video so they can do a proper ghost hunt.

He watched as Josh and Hunter situated the ladder then discussed amongst themselves as to who would go up with which camera. In the bed, Brendan helped Hunter steady the ladder while Cassia recorded the proceedings. The twins disappeared into the woods he and Josh had been examining just before the kiss and the ghostly intervention there of.

“Feels pretty sturdy,” Josh said, pressing a hand against the side of the hotel.

Brendan sure as hell hoped so. If the outside wall was that close to coming down, he and Josh had no business being inside previously.

Trying to deep clean the house after a very long time as my injuries hadn’t really allowed for it. It’s taking forever and I have yet to stop itching (I’m allergic to dust) At least I have a dozen masks to wear to help with this (Yeah I was prepared for the initial masked stage of Covid as I have to clean in masks).

I’m continuing with These Haunted Hills. Last time Josh pointed out Brendan is only in the Hocking Hills area for a short time on research. This is Brendan’s response.

His breath snarled up like his pantleg on the brambles. Going home. Only a week or so ago, he had no plans of ever staying in this bucolic backwater but now, the idea of leaving Josh behind felt like a fall down the stairs, pain everywhere. Heather had pointed out Columbus wasn’t exactly that far away. Everything near Josh – air quotes around the word near – was about an hour away. He’d be no different, if not for the windy roads in these parts. It wasn’t like he made his home in Oregon or something. But even that hour or so distance felt like too much – even though Josh was almost forty minutes from the cabin as is.

I cannot get my shit together so I’m just going to drop the snippet and run. It’s still from These Haunted Hills

“Have you spoken to your friends with the cadaver dogs? I’d like to see what happens if they do a search,” Cassia said, side stepped the root Brendan nearly tripped over himself.

“I’d like to see that myself if it happens,” he added.

“I’ll ask but they might not be available for a while.” Josh stopped, turning a bit to look at Brendan before hefting the ladder and starting to walk again. “You might have to come back once your planned time here is over Brendan.” Was there a jibe in that? No, more like a pain filled question that probably should have waited until they were alone
